Horizon 2020 is the European Commission’s Program to stimulate European Research and Innovation focused on driving innovation and securing Europe’s global competitiveness. The SME instrument Phase 2 focuses primarily on innovative and disruptive scale-ups with international growth ambitions and potential. H2020 is a highly competitive program that only funds the top 3% of applications. 

Sustonable has proudly received the well known Horizon 2020 SME Phase 2 subsidy. This outstanding support has been obtained thanks to the demonstration of exclusive technology to improve the quality of its products further and set up a recycling program. In addition to the funding, Sustonable is honoured to be recognised by the European Commission and the H2020 Commission.

Innovative circular building material

Sustonable’s technology and product composition are unique and patented. Its high-quality material is used to produce countertops, tabletops, and wall panels for bathrooms. Sustonable surfaces have the appearance of stone and are more cost-effective to produce. 

Besides that, 50% less natural resources are employed to produce the material, becoming much lighter, more flexible, and more robust than any other existing building materials. Additionally, Sustonable is a very versatile product as it presents endless design opportunities.   Sustonable employs Recycled PET (plastic bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate) as a binding agent, a synthetic fibre that is highly fitting for recycling. Thanks to this thermoplastic material, it is 100% recyclable, which supports the emerging Circular Economy. Actually, Sustonable is setting up a system to re-use its fabrication and post-consumer waste material. The funding will be used to accelerate the research and innovation on Sustonable’s products, improve the materials, and optimise the process enabling Sustonable to provide a better and greener product for our customer base.
