The value of the Ozone Layer

The ozone layer is a thin part of the Earth’s atmosphere, located at the stratosphere, and which contains a high concentration of ozone gas. This gas helps to absorb a portion of UV light called UVB, that has been linked to many harmful effects, including skin cancers in humans, impair immune systems of all animals and interferes in the sea world in the oceans.

Ozone depletion is happening since 1970. The concentration of the gas, vary depending on natural events, as, temperature, weather, latitude, and altitude and, certain chemicals made by human. These substances were introduced because of an industrial and consumer applications of humans.

This depletion creates the “ozone hole” and most of the substances emitted by human activities are in the stratosphere for decades, what it means that ozone layer recovery is a very slow and long process. In 1987 was created Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting substances, to cut down the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances, reducing their presence in the atmosphere and protect Earth’s ozone layer.

The United Nations, created the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, to promote the importance of its preservation and the theme of this year is: “Global cooperation Protecting Life on Earth”

Despite the Ozone hole are decreasing, it is important all countries of the word contribute to avoid negative effects to human and animals life. Because of that, we want to raise awareness of the importance of this day. Sustonable contribute in this action, day by day, controlling rates of the production of the material, and always improving and reusing as much waste as possible, protecting the ozone layer.
